Supporting Spanish Women-Led Startups Expanding to the U.S. – Desafia San Francisco

EARLY-STAGE-STARTUP-TAXES

Expanding into the U.S. market is an exciting milestone for any startup. However, it also comes with important financial, tax, and operational considerations. Founders need to understand these areas early so they can build with more confidence.

Bringing U.S. Tax and Accounting Guidance to Founders

As part of the Desafía San Francisco Spring 2026 program, our CEO, Akshay Shrimanker, CPA, presented a workshop to eight women-led Spanish startups preparing for U.S. expansion.

The session focused on key accounting and tax fundamentals for entering the U.S. market. For example, Akshay covered topics such as entity structure, compliance, financial systems, reporting, and long-term operational readiness.

For founders, growth across borders is not just about launching in a new market. Instead, it is about building the right foundation from day one. With the right guidance, startups can operate more clearly, confidently, and compliantly.

In addition, understanding U.S. tax and accounting requirements early can help founders avoid costly mistakes. It can also support better decision-making and create a smoother path as the business scales.

Helpful Resources for Foreign Founders

For foreign founders preparing for U.S. expansion, the right resources can make the process easier to understand.

Our Cross-Border Tax Guide and Foreign Startup Tax Essentials one-pager are helpful starting points. Both resources outline tax and compliance considerations that come with entering the U.S. market.

Recognizing the Desafía San Francisco Cohort

The founders in the cohort brought thoughtful questions, strong industry expertise, and a clear commitment to growth. As a result, the workshop became a meaningful discussion about both strategy and execution.
